The Level 2 Gym Instructor course will provide you with a platform to enter the fitness industry. By completing this CIMSPA and REP recognised course, you can pursue a career as a Gym Instructor in the UK or Internationally and potentially earn an annual salary in the region of £25k-£30k. You will develop knowledge and understanding about the following topics:
- The key principles of exercise, fitness, and health, including the components, principles, and variables of fitness, the health, and benefits of physical activity, and the importance of healthy eating.
- Anatomy and physiology of the human body and how this relates to exercise and health, including postural and core stability.
- Effective working relationships with clients, how to provide ongoing customer services, and how to support clients to adhere to exercise/physical activity.
- That gym instructors need to maintain health, safety, and welfare in a fitness environment, including the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.
- Plan and prepare a gym-based exercise programme with apparently healthy adults – both individuals and groups.
Many of those who complete the Level 2 Gym Instructor course often go on to complete the Level 3 Personal Trainer course to further their knowledge.

Level 2 Course Units
Unit 1 – Principles of health and wellbeing for exercise, fitness and health
Unit 2 – Anatomy, physiology and kinesiology for exercise and health
Unit 3 – Know how to support clients lifestyle management and enhance client motivation for exercise and physical activity
Unit 4 – Principles for professional practice and health and safety in a fitness environment
Unit 5 – Planning professional practice with effective consultations and assessments for gym-based exercise sessions
Unit 6 – Instructing professional practice and effective exercise supervision in gym-based exercise sessions
The assessment and duration of the Level 2 Gym Instructor course are wholly dependent on the learning method that you opt for.
Online distance learning
Has been designed for students who want the flexibility to study in their own time, you can qualify in as little as 4-6 weeks. The qualification is assessed in several ways – such as a coursework portfolio, 20 hours of industry experience, and practical video assessments. You will gain access to our interactive E-learning platform and 4 lessons of live virtual clinics set at various times & days.
Face-to-Face Blended Learning
Has been designed for students who want the flexibility to study in their own time and want face-to-face instruction at a chosen location local to them. The qualification is assessed by completing a coursework portfolio and a face-to-face practical assessment. Once you have completed your coursework using our interactive E-learning platform you will be invited to attend a practical weekend. A qualified tutor will then teach you all the skills, techniques, and to enable you to complete your practical assessment. You will complete your practical assessment on the same weekend.
Fast Track Intensive Learning
The fast-track face-to-face learning method can see you qualify in as little as 1 week. You will be taught both theory and practical parts of the course face-to-face in a classroom and gym environment. You will complete all your assessments including a coursework portfolio, exams, and practical assessments during the course. This interactive learning option will enable to you start personal training immediately after completing the course.
